MIT Future of Data

The MIT Future of Data initiative, developed by CSAIL and the MIT Internet Policy Research Initiative (IPRI), aims to bring state-of-the-art MIT computer science research together with world-leading public policy expertise and engagement in order to achieve key goals such as:

  • Creating new policy-informed, technical approaches to today’s privacy, cybersecurity, and data challenges
     
  • Measuring cyber risk with the innovative SCRAM platform
     
  • Leading a global dialogue with policymakers, civil society, and industry leaders as we help shape the future of privacy and data governance
     
  • Developing new educational opportunities related to data governance technology and public policy

MachineLearningApplications@CSAIL
MLA addresses applications of the latest machine-learning technologies, investigates resolutions of current challenges limiting the abilities of ML, and addresses issues of automation impacting the workforce. MachineLearningApplications@CSAIL focuses on implementing Machine Learning in various industries, creating tools to help companies deploy ML algorithms to assist traditional algorithms, and preparing the workforce to help companies bring their workforce along in the digital transformation process. There are research themes within MLA@CSAIL, including: (1) Visual Computing (2) Learning Robots and (3) Programmable Therapeutics. 

FinTechAI@CSAIL
FintechAI enables member companies to connect with the leading AI researchers in CSAIL to learn the capabilities, and challenges, of AI advancements. It explores how the technical developments could impact the global economy through industry applications and considers how policy can be shaped to address the new capabilities. Through FinTechAI@CSAIL, we will collaborate with companies and leverage MIT’s convening capabilities to bring together researchers, industry leaders, policy makers, regulators, and academics to explore new AI technologies and address AI technical challenges.

NextGenerationSoftwareEfficiency@CSAIL
This initiative will target sustainable computing and usher in a new generation of efficient, effective, and environmentally friendly computation in partnership with industry. Next Generation Software Efficiency (NGSE) will be focused on advancing the future of efficient software options facilitating the transition of fundamental academic knowledge to real-world technical solutions.
